My first ever Saxophone was an Alto....After deciding to learn the saxophone when I was on a 9 month adventure traveling in the Indian sub-continent,I came back to Australia, found a piano player who taught some saxophone and i had a go on his horn. When I made a few duck-like calls on his saxophone,he said I was a "natural".Go buy a horn he said, so I went to Melbourne and bought my first Alto Saxophone, a Conn 20M made in mexico... After having a couple of lessons I started just blowing tunes that I knew, did a bunch of busking in Australia and Europe connecting with a few learner type bands and had some fun. After a couple of years, I knew I had to either give it up, or get into it seriously... I then studied at the Lismore Conservatorium and the Sourthern Cross University. At this time I switched to Tenor which became my main horn... I have played Alto Saxophone over the years ,loving this sized horn for Funk and Big-Band. Having many Alto's at my fingertips because I was dealing in saxophones,my "go-to" Alto was mostly always the Conn 6M ,and if I had one, the Conn 6M VIII model.(My tenor is a Conn 10M).... Some of my favourite Alto Sax players are, Charlie Mariano, Maceo Parker, Canonball Adderley, Nathan Crosse and Steve Coleman, just to name a few...
