Saxophone Mouthpieces

The most important part of the saxophone after the reed is the mouthpiece... There are thousands of makes and models,sizes and variations... My first mouthpiece was a yanagisawa hard rubber 5 that I used on my first saxophone,a 20M Conn Alto. I changed to Tenor after a couple of years and my teacher gave me a vintage hard rubber Berg Larsen 100-1-SMS which I still use today after nearly 30 years.He also gave me 2 other Tenor pieces he had,one was a Miami Florida Dukoff metal, the other a metal Otto Link.I didn't like the feel of the metal in my mouth,so I chose the hard-rubber. On soprano I played a Selmer Paris S80D hard rubber which I used for many years.I changed to a Yanagisawa hard rubber 5 around 3or4 years ago. About 15 years ago when I started dealing in saxophones,I started using a New York 6M Meyer for all my Alto needs. I have never really played Baritone sax, and i use a Yamaha 5C for all my play testing needs. A few years ago i started buying many mouthpieces so my customers could have a large range to choose from. Doing this,I have now played many different makes and models,sizes and variations giving myself some experience in the large world of saxophone mouthpieces. I am definitely not a top expert,but I now have a reasonably good idea to be able to help you a LITTLE in your choice of your next mouthpiece. I measure and play test all of my mouthpieces on my website before listing them ,plus of course ,they are properly cleaned.....Also,if you need a ligature&cap set,i sell these for $25 the pair,so ask me if you need a set wether you are after a metal lig or a rovner-style material one, as i usually have both sorts....
